Isshin, Two Heavens as One is best when you treat him like an attack-trigger doubler, not generic Mardu aggro. The strongest lists are full of creatures and permanents that immediately pay you for turning sideways, so that casting Isshin is effectively doubling tokens, treasure, cards, or combats the same turn cycle you start attacking.

Isshin, Two Heavens as One closes by turning medium combat steps into absurd ones. Anim Pakal, Thousandth Moon, Adeline, Resplendent Cathar, Professional Face-Breaker, Krenko, Tin Street Kingpin, Karlach, Fury of Avernus, and Aurelia, the Warleader all become dramatically stronger when their triggers happen twice.

Common mistakes

The easiest way to weaken Isshin is stuffing the list with cards that are merely 'good in combat' instead of cards that actually trigger on attack. Pillow-fort cards, slow planeswalkers, and expensive haymakers that do not snowball the first attack step usually underperform compared to one more efficient trigger creature.
